Faculty Position for UCD Graduate

A recent geotechnical PhD graduate, Dr Mahdi Taiebat, has accepted a tenure track faculty position at the University of British Columbia at Vancouver, Canada, at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting in Fall 2009.  Mahdi, who was co-advised by Professors Jeremic and Dafalias, has spent a post-doc year at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute before being offered the faculty position. We wish him a successful academic career!
 

First GGSS Summer Institute

The GGSS at UC Davis recently held its first summer institute, where this year's subject was rock mechanics.  Professor Richard Goodman spent two days with UC Davis geotechnical engineering students, which included a short-course on rock mechanics and a field trip to Pardee Dam.

I.M. Idriss Distinguished ASCE Member

The GGSS extends congratulations to Professor Emeritus I.M. Idriss who was recently elected as a distinguished ASCE Member.  This is the highest honor given by the ASCE.  Read more at the ASCE website.
