The GGSS at UC Davis held its second summer institute on October 2nd, 2009. Dr. Robert Kayen, senior researcher at USGS and adjunct faculty at UCLA, taught a short course on post-extreme event reconnaissance.
The course included the introduction of GEER and the role of reconnaissance efforts, hands-on project on using GPS and its application in reconnaissance reports, and new mapping techniques such as LIDAR.
