Professor DeJong Receives Shamsher Prakash Research Award

Professor Jason T. DeJong has been selected as this year's recipient of the Shamsher Prakash Research Award.

The award is targeted for young engineers, scientists and researchers (40 years or younger). The candidates should be specialists in Geotechnical Engineering and/or Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering and it is necessary that they have significant independent contributions and show promise of excellence in research. The nominations were reviewed by a Judging Committee of International Experts.

Previous recipients include the UC Davis alumna Tara Hutchinson (2009) and our very own Professor Ross W. Boulanger (2001).

Ronnie Kamai receiving 2011 ARMA Applied Rock Mechanics Research Award

Our former GGSS President, Idriss Award Recipient and distinguished GGSS member, Ronnie Kamai received the 2011 American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA) Applied Rock Mechanics Reseach Award, together with two other co-authors – Prof. Yossef H. Hatzor and Gony Yagoda-Biran, for a paper they had presented in the 2008 Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium titled  “A New Method to Estimate Paleoseismic PGA using Dynamic Numerical Back-Analysis of Keystone Displacements in Historic Masonry Structures”.

The award ceremony took place on the 29th of June 2011, during the 45th U.S. Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium in San Francisco, California.

CONGRATULATIONS Ronnie from all of us! May all your work always receive such amazing honors! We all wish you the best of luck and success in your future work.
